Fire safety failures cost big - 21/05/2010

RANA risk management are warning business and premises owners that failing to pay attention to fire safety laws not only puts lives at risks, but their wallets.

Latest statistics produced state that in London last year courts ordered individuals and companies to pay more than £1 million in fines and costs for breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.

Since the Order's introduction in 2006, two people have been jailed in London for breaching it and London Fire Brigade (LFB) conducts about 14,000 fire inspections of premises each year and says while most buildings are managed well, too many do not have an adequate fire risk assessment.
